Breath · The Science

You've breathed wrong your whole life.

The most accessible performance lever there is — and one with genuinely surprising science behind it.

What it is

Functional and nasal breathing

Helix Breath covers nasal-breathing aids and breath-training tools that change how efficiently you use every breath — nasal, diaphragmatic and controlled — to improve oxygen delivery, recovery, focus and sleep.

The mechanism

What happens inside the body

Nasal breathing

Breathing through the nose filters and humidifies air and releases nitric oxide, improving oxygen uptake.

Diaphragmatic control

Slow, deep breathing raises vagal tone, shifting the body toward calm and recovery.

CO2 tolerance

Breath training improves tolerance to carbon dioxide — the real driver of the urge to breathe — and breathing economy.

Autonomic control

Specific protocols let you consciously influence heart rate, stress and even the immune response.

The evidence

What the research actually shows

−51–57%
Reduction in pro-inflammatory cytokines in breath-trained subjects (Kox, PNAS 2014)
10 days
Training before that immune effect was measurable
Milder
Symptoms after an immune challenge versus untrained controls
Free
The one Helix lever that costs nothing to practise

A 2014 study published in PNAS (Kox et al.) trained 12 people in a breathing-and-cold method for just ten days, then injected them with bacterial endotoxin. The trained group voluntarily dampened their immune response — pro-inflammatory cytokines fell by 51–57% and they reported far milder symptoms — a degree of conscious control over the immune system previously thought impossible.

What it delivers

Why facilities invest

RecoveryDown-regulates stress and supports repair.
FocusBreath control sharpens attention on demand.
CalmRaises vagal tone and lowers stress.
SleepNasal and slow breathing support deeper sleep.
EnduranceBetter breathing economy and CO2 tolerance.
AccessibleThe simplest lever, available to everyone.
How it's used

Protocols that work

Nasal breathing as a daily default — including during easy training and sleep.

Structured breath protocols for focus or calm, a few minutes at a time.

Layered with cold and oxygen for a complete autonomic toolkit.

The systems

Train the breath.

Nasal-breathing aids and breath-training tools — the entry point to the ecosystem.
